Firetrucks devoid of snakes. Empty breathing apparatus. Working overalls instead of ... clothing fireproof. This is the everyday life of a firefighter in Kenya and Ethiopia. People have to work there in dramatic terms, virtually every day risking their own lives. This will change soon. Thanks to the Poles!
Specialists Polish Center for International Aid and rescue and firefighting instructors will train and equip the individual volunteer and professional firefighters in these countries. Afford it thanks to funding from the program of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs - Polish Aid (in total for this purpose has been allocated 912 552 zł). All the action will start in July and will last until the autumn.
The problem of three counties in Kenya (Machakos, Kiambu and Muranga) and two capitals administrative regions of Ethiopia (Hawass and Bahir Dar) are primarily: rapid population growth, increasing the number of buildings, including multi-storey high-rise buildings, and traffic volume. In the event of a natural disaster or catastrophe construction, their effects may affect up to millions of people. It is therefore necessary presence of qualified guard, which in turn - in the face of fires, floods, landslides and road accidents - no special equipment and the skills to use it, it becomes totally helpless.
- The Ethiopian town Hawass firefighters can not effectively extinguish fires without approaching a fire on a dangerous distance for them. They have specialized clothing or equipment of a professional firefighter. The only thing I have is a blank breathing apparatus, about 100 meters of hoses and two generators. It must suffice to 300,000 residents - says Wojciech Wilk, President of the Foundation and the coordinator of the project PCPM outfits in Africa.

In the Kenyan and Ethiopian poorest urban neighborhoods for some time will be created the Volunteer Fire Brigade units. PCPM specialists will train them to fight the fires, floods and other disasters. Firefighters gain skills from water rescue, evacuation of people from high-rise buildings, rescue victims of road accidents and collapses. Covered by the training units will be outfitted with specialized equipment to effectively respond to disasters, and for the county Murunga in Kenya will light a fire truck purchased.
But remember one thing: the project PCPM is the minimum necessary to provide basic assistance by local firefighters. The needs of these people are still immense. Firefighters in Africa ever be transferred funds by transferring any amount to the foundation's bank account number (18 1140 1010 0000 5228 6800 1001), quoting "Project fire". More information can be found at: www.pcpm.org.pl
